La Kan Judo Olbia has resumed its training schedule and is preparing the second half of its competitive calendar following an opening stretch of the year that featured 27 regional, national, and international events. The club, founded 41 years ago, is led by Angelo Calvisi, a 6th-dan black belt whose personal involvement in judo spans 54 years as an athlete, technician, and president.
Training Schedule and Coaching Staff in Olbia
Daily training sessions at the club begin at 17:00 local time at the facility located at via Perù 2, directly behind the Bruno Nespoli stadium in Olbia. The schedule provides dedicated shifts for children starting at four years of age, alongside separate groups for youths and adults. Calvisi works alongside a coaching staff that includes Gavino Carta, a 4th-dan black belt, Mario Fusaro, a 2nd-dan black belt, and Federica Calvisi, a 1st-dan black belt. Alongside the competitive training, the association has continued its community outreach by running the Sport Judo Scuola project in local elementary schools.
Upcoming Fixtures on the Sardinia and National Calendars
The competitive schedule shifts immediately to Cagliari, where the Trofeo Italia for the Esordienti B class is scheduled for October 3 and 4. The club is also preparing athletes for upcoming qualification rounds for the Italian national championship finals, alongside other regional and national tournaments across the Italian Peninsula. These events build on a busy first half of the year where club fighters competed in 27 tournaments and secured numerous medals.
Return of Historical Tournaments at Palasport Angelo Deiana
The club is working to bring two historical competitions back to the tatami at the Palasport Angelo Deiana in Olbia after interruptions caused by the pandemic and subsequent structural renovations at the arena. The 23rd edition of the Trofeo Judo in Action is scheduled for November 29, marking its return after a five-year hiatus. Two weeks later, on December 13, the venue will host the 22nd Trofeo Baby Ippon, which serves as the Memorial Gioele Putzu. Calvisi described both competitions as historic events and central fixtures for both the club and the city of Olbia.
Questions Surrounding National Championship Qualifications
While the October 3 and 4 Trofeo Italia in Cagliari has a confirmed schedule, specific dates and venue allocations for the subsequent national championship qualification rounds remain unannounced by governing bodies. Club leadership has not yet detailed which specific weight classes or individual athletes have secured direct entry into the final stages of the Italian championships, leaving the full roster for the national tournament phase unconfirmed.
