The tournament featured competitions spanning children’s brackets starting at age five, cadets, juveniles, and the premier first-force category. Organizers installed three tatamis simultaneously inside the gymnasium to keep bouts running on schedule. The event opened with a formal presentation of competing clubs, coaches, and referees, followed by traditional bows of respect between competitors, officials, and instructors before the first warm-ups concluded.

Beyond local competition, the tournament served as an evaluation ground for capital city athletes preparing for an upcoming training camp in Spain this November, supported by the Mexico City Judo Association (Judo CDMX). Local sports officials designed the event to help form the official Azcapotzalco judo delegation for the upcoming Mexico City Youth, Children’s, and Paralympic Sports Games. That multi-sport event acts as a direct preliminary phase for the national competition known as Orgullo Nacional 2027.
Respaldo Comunitario e Impulso Institucional
Azcapotzalco sports authorities organized the tournament with official endorsement from Judo CDMX and the Mexican Judo Federation. Mayor Nancy Núñez Reséndiz leads the local administration backing these athletic initiatives. Tournament organizers noted that continuous support for historically underserved disciplines helped push Azcapotzalco to eighth place in Mexico City’s overall medal standings, earning the borough the 2025 State Sports Award. The broader municipal games encompass more than 20 sports disciplines aimed at community transformation and reclaiming public spaces through athletics.
