Construction officially got underway on Wednesday in Jennersdorf, Austria, with a ceremony to start work on a new multi-purpose sports hall. Regional officials, municipal leaders, and project executives gathered at the site of the existing leisure center to launch the €11.2 million infrastructure initiative, which aims to expand local athletic and community facilities by the end of 2028.
Regional Officials Launch Construction at the Leisure Center Site
Burgenland Governor Hans Peter Doskozil and Provincial Sports Councilor Heinrich Dorner joined Jennersdorf Mayor Reinhard Deutsch and Projektentwicklung Burgenland GmbH Managing Director Thomas Rosner to break ground on the project. The new facility will occupy a 5,026-square-meter plot of land at the town’s current leisure center, providing 3,750 square meters of usable floor space. The building is designed as a hybrid structure equipped with modern environmental systems, including a heat pump for climate control and a rooftop photovoltaic array intended to cover the building’s own energy needs.
Volleyball and Judo Clubs Targeted for Facility Upgrades
The facility prioritizes competitive and recreational sports, with dedicated spaces tailored for local clubs. Fidas Volleys Jennersdorf stands to gain improved training and match surfaces that meet 2. Bundesliga standards, while Judo Jennersdorf will receive a specialized multi-purpose room configured for daily practices, tournaments, and larger events. Beyond these core sports, Governor Doskozil noted that the hall will accommodate school athletics, club sports, grassroots programs, school balls, and cultural gatherings.
