India Serafini enters Amici 26 as first judoka

At 20 years old, judoka India Serafini has become the first athlete from her discipline to enter the talent show Amici 26, bringing a competitive athletic resume and a personal history shaped by martial arts to Canale 5. Originating from Pomezia in the province of Rome, Serafini was born on February 4, 2006, and began practicing judo at age nine with encouragement from her parents.

A Palmares Spanning National and International Podiums

Serafini arrives in Maria De Filippi’s school with a competitive record across multiple weight classes. Her titles include a victory at the 2023 Italian Cadets Championships in the 52kg division and a win at the 2025 Senior Italian Cup in the 57kg division. In July 2026, she added an international podium finish by taking third place at the Junior European Cup in Prague within the 52kg category. Her entry into the television program was marked by a handoff from Paris 2024 Olympic judo champion Alice Bellandi, who presented her with the official jersey.

Finding Resilience on the Tatami After Personal Loss

Behind her athletic preparation lies a difficult family history, notably the sudden death of her father—a martial arts champion—who passed away following a national tournament. Speaking in the program’s backstage, Serafini described how the sport provided emotional survival: The judo taught me never to give up and gave me so much determination and strength. It teaches me that every time you fall, there is always the possibility to get back up, because life goes on, it doesn’t stop. To maintain a connection with her late father during competitions, she carries his photograph with her to every event, keeping it with her even on the podium. Her mother remains her primary supporter and anchor through these challenges.

An Unprecedented Experiment for Canale 5

The inclusion of Serafini marks a distinct shift for the format. The program has welcomed combat sports like judo—alongside the introduction of boxing via competitor Gabriele Rontani—representing an experimental pivot for the production.
