HC Sparta Praha changes logo and blood-red jerseys for November blood donation campaign

HC Sparta Praha will replace its traditional club logo with a blood donation appeal throughout November, trading its usual red sweaters for a design featuring black, white, and blood-red color schemes. The initiative, titled “I you too can save a life” and centered on the slogan “Give blood,” aims to address statistics showing that every third person will require a blood transfusion during their lifetime, according to club announcements reported by Sport.cz.

HC Sparta Praha Updates Uniforms for November

The Czech extraliga hockey club’s updated November uniforms abandon the classic red look for a palette combining black, white, and a distinct blood-red tone. A brushstroke design element extends to the player numbers on the back of each sweater, while a dripping blood motif highlights the constant demand for donations. Rather than disappearing entirely, the club crest is integrated into a small drop of blood on the front of the jersey. HC Sparta Praha will wear these special-edition uniforms for all games played through the month of November, both on home ice and away.

“We want to bring the appeal for donation directly in front of fans of other clubs,” said Jakub Dlouhý, a member of Sparta’s board of directors responsible for marketing and commerce. “Blood does not have a club color, and anyone can help regardless of who they cheer for. That is exactly why we will play in the special jerseys for the whole of November at home and outside.”

Donors Receive Tickets for Blood Donation Campaign

Blood donations will take place throughout November at participating hospitals as well as during organized joint donation sessions held within Sparta’s facilities. Donors will receive a voucher for tickets to select home games as a token of appreciation. Three upcoming fixtures at the O2 arena are specifically dedicated to the Sparťanská krev campaign: a Nov. 1 matchup against HC Verva Litvínov, a Nov. 15 game against Mountfield HK, and a Nov. 29 meeting with HC Škoda Plzeň. Supporters who are medically ineligible to donate blood can still contribute to transfusion centers by purchasing a Sparťanská krev wristband.

Blood Donation Numbers Nearly Doubled Last Year

The Sparťanská krev campaign was first launched in 2007. In the previous year’s drive, 7,106 individuals turned out to donate blood, with 6,478 completing successful donations. Participants contributed a total of 2,967 liters of blood, which included 582 first-time donors. The total number of successful blood draws nearly doubled compared to the campaign’s prior installment.
