Jo Adell and José Ramírez delivered productive triples to power the Cleveland Guardians to a 9-3 victory over the Chicago White Sox on Wednesday, successfully avoiding elimination in their postseason series.
Adell and Ramírez Fuel Cleveland’s Offensive Surge
Adell broke open a tight contest in the third inning with a bases-clearing triple off relief pitcher Bryan Hudson, driving home three runs to stake the Guardians to a 4-1 advantage. The outfielder, acquired in an August trade from the Los Angeles Angels, finished the game with two hits, matching his production from a triple in Cleveland’s 4-3 defeat during Game 2. Ramírez added a crucial insurance blow in the eighth inning, driving in Travis Bazzana and Patrick Bailey with a sharp hit to stretch the lead to 7-3. It marked the first time in franchise history that the Guardians have hit two triples in a single postseason game, mirroring a feat last accomplished by the Los Angeles Dodgers in Game 1 of the 2024 World Series.
Cleveland bounced back from a quiet start to the series where they managed just three runs and seven hits across the first two games, compiling 11 hits on Wednesday. Alongside Adell and Ramírez, Bailey and Brayan Rocchio also collected two hits apiece. Guardians manager Stephen Vogt pointed to the team’s relentless pressure as the turning point. We kept grinding out at-bats,
Vogt said. I think that made the difference between the first two games and today: we managed to push across a few runs previously, but couldn’t add on. Today our guys did an exceptional job extending the lead.
White Sox Stumble Despite Early Lead and Record Strikeout Support
The White Sox jumped ahead early when catcher Kyle Teel hit an RBI double off Daniel Espino with one out in the first inning. Despite loading the bases, Chicago failed to capitalize further as Espino struck out Chase Meidroth and reliever Foster Griffin caught Tristan Peters looking on strikes. Griffin went on to set a franchise relief record by striking out seven batters over 2.2 innings while allowing just one run and two hits.
Playing in front of 40,590 fans at home for their first postseason game at the venue since 2021, the White Sox struggled with runners in scoring position, going 2-for-11 and striking out 19 times overall. There are things we could have done better, but they played well too,
left-hander Hagen Smith told. They’re a good team, and we’ll come back tomorrow to compete.
Teel echoed that sentiment regarding the shift in momentum for Game 4. Today has nothing to do with tomorrow. Nothing,
Teel said. We’ll be ready like we always are tomorrow.
White Sox Seek First Home Playoff Series Win Since 1906
The White Sox entered the matchup holding a 2-1 series lead, attempting to capture a playoff series victory at home for the first time since the 1906 World Series against the Chicago Cubs. Chicago opened their postseason run with four consecutive victories following a 60-102 regular-season campaign in 2025. Meanwhile, playing in his 48th career playoff game—all with Cleveland—Ramírez manufactured another run in the fifth by doubling, stealing third, and sliding headfirst past Teel’s tag on a ground ball by Chase DeLauter to make it 5-2.
Thursday’s Fourth Game Schedule
