Grupo Covadonga Hosts 6th Hockey Papis Tournament with Four Teams

Sixty Veterans Take to the Pitch for Gijón’s Sixth Papis Hockey Showdown

Sixty players representing four distinct clubs will take to the pitch from Friday through Sunday for the sixth edition of the Torneo de Hockey Papis at the Real Grupo de Cultura Covadonga, according to local media reports. The weekend event brings together adult hockey enthusiasts from across the region to balance competitive matches with club camaraderie. The sports organization outlined the tournament schedule during a presentation held at club facilities, detailing an itinerary designed to keep veteran players active in the sport.

Cross-Regional Field Draws Teams from Santander and Asturias

The three-day tournament features a balanced field of four squads, drawing entries from both Cantabria and Asturias. Two visiting teams make the trip from Santander: the Galerna Sardinero and the Real Sociedad de Tenis de La Magdalena. They join two local Asturian sides, the host Real Grupo de Cultura Covadonga and Lloberu from Gijón. The competition utilizes the club’s dedicated facilities throughout the weekend, offering participants a structured environment to test their skills against regional rivals.

Joaquín Miranda Links Lifelong Athletics to Shared Passion

Beyond the final scores, organizers stressed that the gathering serves primarily as an exercise in sportsmanship and social cohesion among regional clubs. During the official tournament unveiling, Real Grupo de Cultura Covadonga president Joaquín Miranda highlighted the personal value of maintaining an active athletic routine later in life. “Finding a team, training together, and preparing for a competition are reasons to stay active and continue enjoying a shared passion,” Miranda stated during the presentation.
