Gargiulo wins under-81 kg weight class at Fijlkam judo event in Sardinia

Cagliari Tournament Draws National Competitors

The Fijlkam judo event unfolded on October 3 and 4 in Sardinia, drawing youth competitors in the Esordienti B category from across Italy. Representing the Olympian Sport club of Montanaro alongside teammate Beatrice Quattrone, Gargiulo defeated a series of well-prepared opponents to win the under-81 kg weight class.

Gargiulo Secures Second Season Title

Gargiulo’s victory marks his second Trofeo Italia title of 2026, a feat matched by only one other competitor from a Naples club this season. The result strengthens the Montanaro judoka’s standing ahead of the upcoming qualification rounds for the national A1 category finals scheduled for December.

Quattrone Gains Valuable Match Experience

In the under-52 kg category, Beatrice Quattrone advanced past her opening match in a matter of seconds before bowing out in the second round. Despite putting her opponent under early pressure and displaying high energy, she was caught off guard by a late counter. Technical staff noted the setback serves as useful experience to refine her technique ahead of future competitions.

Coach Reflects on Sardinian Campaign

“I tell our kids not to give up and to keep going down the path they have started,” said Francesco Quattrone, the coach who accompanied the athletes to Sardinia. “The fruits of the work done are being seen and your future will surely be bright. I would also like to thank their parents, who take them to competitions even so far away, with significant expenses, but the results achieved cannot but make everyone proud.”
