Friederike Stolze Opens Against Melika Balali
Friederike Stolze of TSG Backnang enters the competition ranked 22nd in the world. She is scheduled for the tenth contest on Mat 1. Her opening-round opponent is Melika Balali, who is competing for the Refugee Olympia Team. The two athletes have never faced each other. This tournament marks Stolze’s second world championship appearance.
I was happy to be allowed to participate again,
Stolze said. After the medal at the Grand Prix in China, I am going into the competition motivated and in good spirits, and I would like to place.
Sara-Joy Bauer Faces Skye Knoester in Debut Year
Sara-Joy Bauer, also of TSG Backnang in Baden-Württemberg, begins her tournament ranked 28th globally. She takes the ninth match on Mat 2 against South Africa’s Skye Knoester, who holds the 88th spot in the world rankings. Because Knoester has competed primarily in title fights on the African continent, the two judoka share no prior head-to-head history.

Bauer steps onto the global stage for the first time during her first year among women. She earned her selection following a successful junior campaign that included a European junior title and a bronze medal at the Grand Slam in Astana.
I am very proud of the nomination and I’m really looking forward to the World Championships,
Bauer said. I see everything step by step. So much is very new for me and I will look from fight to fight and not put myself under pressure. I would be very happy to achieve a placement.
