Florida State surrendered a 14-point lead to lose 44-20 against Louisville on Friday, Oct. 9, 2026, at L&N Stadium in Louisville, Kentucky. The defeat dropped the Seminoles to 3-3 overall and extended their streak of games away from Tallahassee to 13 consecutive contests.
The Friday night matchup in the Derby City began with sharp execution from Florida State under head coach Mike Norvell. Fifth-year quarterback Ashton Daniels capped a 14-play, 75-yard opening drive with a seven-yard touchdown run. Following a defensive stop on fourth-and-one, the Seminoles struck again when Daniels connected with junior wide receiver Micahi Danzy for a 25-yard touchdown pass, staking the visitors to a 14-0 advantage before the first quarter ended.
Isaac Brown and the Ground Game Take Over for Louisville
The momentum evaporated early in the second quarter. Florida State drove inside the Louisville two-yard line but failed to convert on a fourth-and-goal wide receiver screen. On the very next play, junior running back Issac Brown exploded for a 97-yard touchdown run—the longest play from scrimmage in Louisville program history. Following a Florida State three-and-out, Louisville orchestrated a seven-play, 59-yard drive that culminated in a three-yard touchdown run by Marquise Davis to tie the game at 14-14 with 3:21 remaining in the first half.

The Cardinals relied heavily on a dominant ground attack, racking up 397 rushing yards out of 537 total yards. Defensively, Stanquan Clark and T.J. Capers paced the Cardinals by recording 10 tackles apiece.
Ashton Daniels and the Seminoles Offense Stutter After Hot Start
Daniels finished the night completing 21 of 37 passes for 209 yards, two touchdowns, and one interception, while adding 45 rushing yards and a score on the ground. His 10th rushing touchdown of the season set a single-season FSU program record for quarterbacks, making him the first Seminole with double-digit rushing scores since Trey Benson in 2023. Yet the offense stalled completely after the opening frame.
“It just comes down to keeping our foot on the pedal. That’s two big-time games for us that we come out hot as an offense, put up 14 points quick and all of a sudden we can’t move the ball after that,” Daniels said in the postgame press conference.

Daniels took blame for the offensive stagnation in his postgame remarks, noting that preparation throughout the week needs improvement. Sophomore running back Ousmane Kromah paced the backfield with 88 rushing yards on 19 carries alongside four receptions for 43 yards, tying his career high in receiving yards and becoming just the second Seminole since Warrick Dunn in 1995 to rush for at least 80 yards in each of the first six games of a season. Micahi Danzy led Florida State in receiving for the second consecutive week by securing four catches for 50 yards and matching his career high with two touchdown receptions.
Defensive Breakdown Leaves Florida State Searching for Answers
The unit surrendered 537 total yards, marking the third time in six games this season that the defense has allowed 500 or more yards to an opponent. Junior linebacker Chris Jones and junior defensive back CJ Richard Jr. tied for the team lead with seven tackles each.
How Florida State’s loss to Louisville exemplified Mike Norvell’s tenure: What’s next for Seminoles?
“Bad plays are going to happen from time to time, but you know, freaking rise up, do your [expletive] job, and go play the next play,” Norvell said. “They had 400 yards rushing tonight, that’s awful and we didn’t execute the way that we needed to.”

Norvell did not mince words regarding his team’s inability to stop the run, calling the performance unacceptable as Louisville repeatedly exploited gaps on the ground.
Historical Road Skid Deepens for the Seminoles
The loss extends Florida State’s losing streak away from Tallahassee to 13 consecutive games, a stretch that includes two neutral-site defeats against Georgia in the 2023 Orange Bowl and Georgia Tech in Dublin to open the 2024 season according to tracking by Heavy. The overall conference record for the Seminoles stands at 1-2 in ACC action and 4-15 over their past 19 conference matchups going back to the start of the 2024 campaign.
The defeat drops the Seminoles to 3-3 overall and initiates preparations for a road trip to face the No. 4 University of Miami Hurricanes on Saturday, Oct. 17, at Hard Rock Stadium, with kickoff scheduled for 7 p.m. on ESPN.
