Flechas Rosas is a new archery program in Gualeguay, Argentina, designed exclusively for women, combining sport with breast cancer prevention and recovery support. Developed by instructor Marcelo Ferreccio and clinic coordinator Andrea Demarchi, the initiative adapts international therapeutic experiences to local public health resources.
Marcelo Ferreccio Launches the Initiative After Training in Buenos Aires
The project originated from a training course completed earlier this year in Buenos Aires, where instructor Marcelo Ferreccio learned about archery programs tailored for women recovering from breast cancer surgeries. Ferreccio, an experienced archer in Gualeguay, discovered that drawing a bow can aid patients dealing with chronic arm edema resulting from lymph node removal. Upon returning home, he discussed the concept with local archery peers and families.
Andrea Demarchi Integrates Public Health Resources From CIC 1 and CIC 2
Local clinical physician and CIC 2 coordinator Andrea Demarchi joined the project after researching international precedents, particularly in Spain. Demarchi and Ferreccio structured Flechas Rosas to blend athletic practice with accessible health screenings. The initiative utilizes resources from Gualeguay’s CIC 1 and CIC 2 community centers, embedding wellness checks and preventative health actions directly into the sporting schedule.
Comprehensive Wellness Replaces Traditional Sports Practice
Organizers emphasize that the program transcends standard athletic training by addressing broader women’s health needs, including oncology support and preventative care. The archery sessions function primarily as a social hub and physical outlet, encouraging community building and personal self-care habits among participants.
Local Organizers Seek Full Consolidation in Gualeguay
Ferreccio and cooperating health professionals are currently working to make Flechas Rosas a permanent part of Gualeguay's recreational and public health services. The project continues to invite local women to participate in the specialized archery and wellness alternative.
