Edson Álvarez used forged vaccine certificates, claims ex-producer

The Fraud Accusations Against West Ham Defender

West Ham United and Mexico national team defender Edson Álvarez utilized fraudulent COVID-19 vaccination certificates issued in Mexico for over two years to continue playing for Dutch club Ajax. The allegations were made public by former documentary producer Juan José López during a press conference reported by 24 Horas.

The accusations form part of an escalating legal dispute between the player and his former documentary producer. López, accompanied by his attorney Gerardo Rincón, claimed that the forged documents allowed Álvarez to bypass vaccination mandates from the onset of the pandemic in March 2020 through the conclusion of the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar.

Inside the Alleged Forgery Operation

López detailed the mechanics of the alleged forgery ring during his public appearance, stating that the service cost approximately $500 per certificate and provided official medical seals to bypass inoculation requirements. The former producer asserted that the transactions were coordinated through offices located in the Polanco neighborhood of Mexico City.

The Unreleased Documentary and Financial Demands

Beyond the vaccination allegations, the legal battle centers on a nearly three-year production of a documentary about Álvarez’s career that ultimately remained unreleased. López alleges that the player owes him more than $3.5 million for production expenses incurred during that period.

Criminal Complaints and Upcoming Court Dates

The conflict has expanded to include severe criminal allegations. López claims Álvarez is potentially responsible for his privation of liberty in November 2024. Rincón stated that his client has faced ongoing threats in recent weeks, with authorities in Mexico City reviewing communication records provided to the fiscalia.

The formal legal action was initiated by López’s camp roughly two months prior to the public announcements. Both legal parties are officially scheduled to appear before authorities for a hearing on November 12, according to statements from Rincón regarding the ongoing fraud and kidnapping inquiries.

The Player’s Response

Álvarez has publicly rejected the allegations. The professional footballer addressed the matter via social media, publishing an Instagram story that dismissed any connection to the claims brought forward by his former producer, even as both sides prepare for the upcoming judicial proceedings in November.

“With these certificates, Edson accredited himself to keep playing for Ajax,” López stated in remarks covered by 24 Horas.
