The advance party of the Dominican Republic’s delegation for the Youth Olympic Games arrived in Senegal to establish operations and prepare accommodations for incoming athletes and coaches, El Día reported.
Mission chief Dulce María Piña leads the advance unit alongside the technical directorate of the Dominican Olympic Committee, headed by Juan Antonio Febles Dalmasí. The team departed on Tuesday to manage on-site logistics ahead of the multi-sport event in Dakar.
Logistics Lead Prepares Arrival of Flagbearer Carla Tolentino
Preparation work in Senegal centers on room assignments, credentials, and transport arrangements for the national delegation. Piña confirmed that national flagbearer Carla Tolentino is scheduled to arrive in the host country on Sunday, October 25, making her the first Dominican athlete to reach the venue. Joining Piña and Febles Dalmasí on the advance team are Adrienne Portes, assigned to oversee housing, Marcel Vidal for registration, and Julio Florentino managing transportation.
While El Día reported that the advance party departed on Tuesday, reporting from Fots Dominicana noted that leadership schedules indicated a broader travel window around October 20 for mission officials handling the initial coordination. The Dominican Olympic Committee previously convened representatives from participating sports federations in Santo Domingo to map out the roster structure.
Eight Disciplines Represented in the 11-Athlete Roster
The Dominican Republic will send a total of 11 athletes to the Dakar competition, distributed across eight distinct sports disciplines. The qualified sports comprise swimming, beach volleyball, sailing, boxing, wrestling, athletics, judo, and fencing.
This compact contingent follows a historical path established during previous Youth Olympic cycles. Since the inaugural edition in Singapore in 2010, Dominican competitors have captured seven total medals at the youth games. Standout historical results include sprinter Luguelín Santos winning two gold medals at Singapore 2010, boxer Juan Solano securing a silver medal at Nanjing 2014, and sailor Deury Corniel taking gold at Buenos Aires 2018.
Historical Context of the Dakar 2026 Olympic Schedule
The IV Summer Youth Olympic Games are officially scheduled to run from October 31 to November 13, 2026. The event marks a significant milestone in international sports history by becoming the first Olympic-branded competition hosted on the African continent.
