Dang Cong Duc secured the men’s 50-meter 3-string compound archery gold medal with a score of 356 out of 360 points at the National Team Archery Championship in Hue, breaking the previous national record of 355 points. Out of 36 arrows shot during the event in late August 2026, 32 scored 10 points.
National Record Broken in Hue
At the national championship, he landed 32 maximum scores across his 36 arrows to edge past the prior 355-point national benchmark in the 50-meter compound event. This victory followed a breakthrough 2025 season where he claimed six gold medals at the national championships, earning selection for the 33rd Southeast Asian Games. At those regional games, he collected a mixed doubles silver medal and a men’s team bronze.
Asian Games Run Stops in Semifinals
Before his record-breaking domestic gold, Dang Cong Duc reached the quarterfinals of the 20th Asian Games held in Japan, where he posted 709 points in the qualification round. In the knockout stage, he faced Choi Yong-hee of South Korea, a former world team champion. Trailing 86–87, Duc fired six consecutive 10-point arrows to secure a 146–143 victory.

Overcoming Near-Retirement to Reach the Podium
Discovered by coach Dang Thi Nhan in a talent class in Cam Pha, Duc initially progressed slower than his peers. Facing years without major breakthroughs and subpar results at youth competitions in late 2024, he considered leaving the sport entirely to focus on university studies.
Coach Nhan repeatedly urged him to stay, adjusted his training regimen to reinforce basic techniques, and worked on his competitive mindset. That persistence shifted his trajectory by late 2024, when he won a gold and a bronze medal at the national championships. Within the national team setup, Duc trained alongside elite athletes, worked with Indian experts, and competed internationally, building the resilience and technique that ultimately carried him to the Asian Games and the record books.
