The Da Nang senior and middle-aged badminton team secured eight medals at the 2026 National Senior and Middle-Aged Badminton Championships in Quang Ninh province, reported. The delegation collected two gold medals, three silver medals, and three bronze medals, marking the city’s highest finish at the national tournament since 2019.

Da Nang Rises to Fourth Place at 2026 National Championships

The national tournament brought together more than 230 high-performing athletes across 14 sports delegations representing provinces, cities, and sectors nationwide, competing across nine age categories. Da Nang fielded a roster of nearly 20 competitors. The final medal count placed Da Nang fourth in the overall team standings, improving on its seventh-place finish at the 2025 competition where the city won one gold, two silver, and five bronze medals.

The Central Committee of the Vietnam Senior Association awarded Da Nang the flag recognizing exceptional performance following the conclusion of the event. The Central Committee of the Vietnam Senior Association, the Department of Education and Sports, and the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism of Quang Ninh province jointly organized the championship to promote physical training among middle-aged and senior citizens.

Gold and Silver Medals Secured Across Senior Categories

Luu Dong Thao and Nguyen Thi Thuy captured the gold medal in the 41–45 age group women’s doubles division after defeating their opponents in successive matches. In the 51–55 age group men’s doubles, Vien Quang Vu and Nguyen Viet Thang secured Da Nang’s second gold medal of the championship.

Silver medals went to three additional pairs across older age brackets. In the 51–55 mixed doubles division, Nguyen Huy Hung and Nguyen Thi Thanh Tinh added a third silver medal to the city’s tally.

Three bronze medals rounded out the eight-podium performance for Da Nang. Nguyen Dat Cau and Bui Re earned third place in the 66–70 men’s doubles division. Tran Khanh Huy and Le Quang Loc secured bronze in the 56–60 men’s doubles, and Phan Thi Thanh paired with Le Thi Thong to take bronze in the 56–60 women’s doubles category.

Pham Vu Chi Cuong, secretary-general of the Da Nang Badminton Federation, stated that regular participation and training habits across all age groups have driven the sport’s widespread popularity in the city. City sports officials noted that local clubs have expanded and training facilities have undergone renovations to accommodate the growing number of participants.

Grassroots Participation Fuels Elite Senior Competitors

Municipal sports administrators organize regular local fixtures, including the annual Da Nang Senior and Veteran Badminton Club tournament, to select elite competitors for national representation. Local players train daily across community courts and municipal sports facilities.

Nguyen Dat Cau, a resident of Thanh Khe district who began playing badminton in his youth, noted that regular matches with training partners have maintained his physical conditioning and overall quality of life. Similarly, Nguyen Thi Thuy from Quang Phu district reported practicing with peers every afternoon as part of a routine maintained for over a decade.
