Blood pooled on the pavement of the Guanyinqiao pedestrian overpass after an internet personality known for impersonating a Chinese celebrity was attacked with a hammer and a utility knife while operating a barbecue street stall in Chongqing.
The Brutal Assault on the Jiangbei District Overpass
The confrontation began on the evening of October 17. The victim, who goes by the online alias Wang Bian and whose legal name is Qiu Shun, had been operating the street food stall for about a week in Chongqing’s Jiangbei District.
According to eyewitness accounts cited by Cover News, a man wearing black clothing and a baseball cap approached from behind and initially lunged at Wang with a utility knife. Bystanders and fans intervened to knock the blade away. The assailant then pulled a hammer from his pocket and struck the creator repeatedly in the head.

Footage circulating on social media showed the two men struggling across the overpass for roughly 10 minutes. Several fans who attempted to halt the assault sustained minor injuries during the scuffle. Police officers arrived at the scene shortly after the altercation began and detained the suspect inside a nearby commercial shopping mall. Emergency responders transferred Wang to a local hospital for medical evaluation, where treatment for his head wounds is ongoing.
Financial Disputes and Looming Court Dates
While local public security officials have not yet released an official statement regarding the motive, multiple online reports suggest the suspect is Wang’s former business manager and partner. The two individuals allegedly experienced a severe falling out over livestreaming revenue divisions, account ownership rights, and financial accounting.

Unverified reports circulating on social media platforms indicate that the pair were scheduled to appear in court for a civil hearing three days after the incident. Additional online commentary claimed the suspect had previously filed formal tax evasion举报 reports against the content creator, though authorities have not confirmed these allegations. Wang’s legal representatives and local law enforcement have yet to verify the precise nature of the financial dispute or the identity of the detained individual beyond preliminary reports.
Platform Bans and the Pivot to Street Vending
The violent encounter occurred less than two weeks after Wang Bian announced his departure from mainstream online platforms. Last year, the creator gained significant visibility by publishing videos imitating pop singer Wang Yuan. However, the content drew criticism for mimicking public figures and triggered platform bans across multiple accounts. On October 5, Wang posted a video wearing a delivery uniform to announce his retirement from internet streaming.
Prior to the attack, the barbecue stall had attracted large crowds of onlookers and supporters, creating pedestrian congestion on the overpass. Witnesses noted that local urban management officers had visited the location earlier in the week to address complaints regarding blocked pathways.
