Brühler Turnverein youth secure five golds at Koga-Cup
Young judoka from the Brühler Turnverein (BTV) dominated the podium at the Koga-Cup in Wermelskirchen this weekend, anchoring a productive stretch for the club’s development program. While the regional tournament yielded a significant medal haul, the organization simultaneously fielded athletes at high-level national scouting events in Herne and Holzwickede, according to reports from the Rheinische Anzeigenblätter.
Dominance in the youth brackets
The Koga-Cup served as a proving ground for the BTV youth squad. Five athletes clinched gold medals in their respective age and weight categories: Fynn Bauer, Jakub Schmidt, Christian Cherdron, Theo Frese, and Henri Peters. Beyond the top spots, the club secured a broad collection of silver and bronze medals.
The depth of the BTV pipeline was on display in the U12 weight class, where the final match became an internal affair. Teammates Theo Frese and Vincent van Holt faced off for the gold, underscoring the club’s current developmental momentum.
National stage scouting
Two BTV representatives tested their mettle against a wider field of talent. Florian Hombach and Anni Hemmerling participated in U16 national scouting tournaments in Herne and Holzwickede. While neither athlete reached a top-tier placement, the club emphasized that the exposure to competitors from across Germany provided essential experience for their progression.
League play under pressure
The weekend’s intensity extended to U16 league competition. Florian Hombach contributed two points as a guest starter for ASG Elsdorf, helping secure a victory over ESV Olympia Köln.
Simultaneously, the BTV female U16 team faced a challenging roster crisis. Injuries and short-notice absences left the squad with only six competitors. Despite the depleted lineup, the team maintained its commitment to the match, successfully securing two points against the joint team of MTV Köln and ESV Olympia Köln.
