Badmintonclub Herne brings together 26 teams for fifth quiz

Badmintonclub Herne brought together 26 teams for its fifth edition of its quiz on Friday, October 16, at Zaal Bavo in Herfelingen, drawing roughly 100 participants from across Pajottegem and surrounding areas.

Tight Margins Define The Battle For First Place

The competition came down to a single point at the top of the standings. De kakofonische kalebassenkarnavalisten claimed victory with 126 points, edging past runner-up Peisduiven, who finished with 125 points. Les visiteurs secured the final spot on the podium in third place with 121 points.

Behind the leaders, Slimmer dan Ben Crabbé took fourth with 118 points, while Quiz’t ni zeker and De verzekerde preventiebibliotheken tied for fifth with 114 points each. Marian, Febe, Tore, and Iris managed the jury responsibilities, scoring and processing results across the nine rounds.

Ninety Questions Across Nine Diverse Rounds

Sanne and Senne designed and presented the event for the fifth year, structuring the program into nine rounds of ten questions each. The fifth round featured a connecting theme requiring competitors to identify Studio 100 as the common denominator behind ten separate prompts.

Certain questions proved exceptionally difficult for the field. Only one group out of the 26 entries correctly identified mirepoix—the classic culinary mixture of diced onions, carrots, and celery named after the French town connected to Gaston Pierre de Lévis’s noble family. That single correct answer came from the team of teachers representing the Heilig-Hartcollege in Halle.

Broad Regional Reach Beyond The Badminton Court

The participating teams drew from municipalities stretching between Geraardsbergen, Edingen, Halle, and Ninove, with Herne and Pajottegem acting as the geographical center. Founded in 1982, Badmintonclub Herne maintains a membership base of approximately 150 players ranging from six-year-olds to members in their seventies, offering recreational play, competitive matches, youth training, and G-badminton programs.

Club leadership uses proceeds from the annual fundraiser to support general operations and keep membership dues accessible for participants. The club previously hosted milestone quizzes, including an 18-team event in February 2008 for its 25th anniversary and a post-pandemic edition in October 2022.

Sponsors And Past Leadership Shape The Evening

Local businesses supplied the prize table offerings for the top finishers. Random prizes went to Tony Shteiner in tenth place with 109 points and The real housewives of Pajottegem in twentieth with 94 points, while a dedicated biermand went to the table with the highest beverage consumption.

Current president Joeri Vannimmen, who has led the club since 2020, welcomed three former presidents to the hall: Johan Letouche, who served from 1993 to 2001; Sven De Rom, who led from 2003 to 2012; and Johan Peetermans, whose tenure ran from 2012 to 2020. Luc Somers, president from 2001 to 2003, did not attend.
