All 19 city and regency contingents across West Sumatra are officially registered to compete in the Pekan Olahraga Provinsi (Porprov) XVI Sumbar 2026, marking the end of an eight-year hiatus for the provincial multi-sport games. According to an announcement from the PB Porprov XVI 2026 organizing committee reported by KlikPositif, registration concluded via the Sirimau application ahead of the official competition window running from October 2 to October 14, 2026.
Nineteen Delegations Clear Registration Hurdle
PB Porprov XVI 2026 Chairman Editiawarman stated that delegations worked late through various logistical challenges to finalize their entries. “With all the very dynamic and very thrilling dynamics, thank God it ended, God willing, with a happy ending,” Editiawarman said, as reported by KlikPositif.
The successful registration of all 19 regional delegations demonstrates organizational unity between the provincial sports governing body, KONI Sumbar, and municipal sports committees. West Sumatra KONI Chairman Hamdanus praised the collaborative push, noting that initial readiness varied widely across districts and cities before committees rallied to meet the deadline.
Bukittinggi Deploys 538 Athletes Across 42 Sports
Local preparations for the multi-sport showcase vary by municipality, with participating governments finalizing budgets and rosters. In Bukittinggi, Wali Kota Ramlan Nurmatias led a contingent send-off at City Hall, dispatching 644 total delegates—comprising 538 athletes and 106 officials—to compete across 42 sports, iNews reported. The municipal government allocated approximately Rp4 billion to support the delegation.

Municipal sports officials emphasized strict administrative screening to guarantee local representation. According to iNews, athletes selected for Bukittinggi must hold local identification cards, work within the city, or possess prior experience representing the region in national competitions. Mayor Ramlan Nurmatias noted that roster selections remained entirely free of political interference, with administrative compliance serving as the primary criterion for participation.
Municipal Host Duties Span Eight Districts
As one of eight designated host districts and cities for the 2026 Games, Bukittinggi is overseeing preparations for three specific disciplines: wushu, pickleball, and dance sport, according to ANTARA News Sumbar. Plt Kepala Dinas Pemuda dan Olahraga (Dispora) Kota Bukittinggi Hendra Eka Putra confirmed that venue readiness stands at 70 to 75 percent, with all preparations slated for completion prior to October 5. Bukittinggi Deputy Mayor Ibnu Asis serves as the Chairman of the Bukittinggi City Contingent, while Ramlan noted that the city government entrusted the leadership position to the Deputy Mayor.

Dance sport events in Bukittinggi will incorporate local cultural standards in alignment with the region’s traditional Adat Basandi Syara’, Syara’ Basandi Kitabullah (ABS-SBK) philosophy. Delegations will compete in paired events at the local Sport Hall and individual categories at the Pasar Atas Lobby under these cultural guidelines, ANTARA News Sumbar reported.
Archery and Martial Arts Open Competition Schedule
Competitive action is already underway at various venues across the province. The archery tournament began at the Semen Padang Archery Field in Indarung, Padang, drawing athletes from 14 regencies and cities to compete across 28 medal events through October 5, RRI.co.id reported.
Concurrently, other municipalities have deployed regional fighters to early events. In Pariaman, Mayor Yota Balad released the city’s pencak silat and taekwondo squads—comprising 13 and 19 athletes respectively—as part of a broader delegation of 260 athletes competing across 35 sports throughout the two-week provincial games, according to official municipal records from Kota Pariaman. Wali Kota Yota Balad was accompanied by Pariaman Contingent Chairman Afrizal Azhar during the send-off ceremony at the Pariaman City Hall Lobby on Friday, October 2, 2026. Furthermore, Pariaman holds a strategic role as host for three sports: Roller Skating, Teqball, and Soft Tennis, and Pariaman Mayor Yota Balad alongside Deputy Mayor Mulyadi champions a sport tourism vision.
