Ricardo Márquez will miss the remainder of the season after sustaining three fractured vertebrae during Águilas Doradas’ match against Bucaramanga, team medical staff confirmed.
Medical Diagnosis Confirms Three Vertebral Fractures
Ricardo Márquez suffered a blunt trauma to his spine during the match against Bucaramanga, according to the team’s medical department. A subsequent computed tomography (CT) scan revealed three fractures in the transverse processes of the L2, L3, and L4 vertebrae.

Carlos Castro stated that the forward will face an extended recovery period. “Ricardo received a blunt trauma to the vertebral column, in the left lumbar area that generated a lot of pain,” Castro explained. “In the medical evaluation we found him with a lot of pain, for which he was referred to a tomography, in which three fractures appear in the L2, L3, and L4 vertebrae in the transverse process, and for that reason he will have to move away from the fields between eight and ten weeks.”
Treatment Plan and Surgical Evaluation
The rehabilitation protocol currently requires complete physical rest and dedicated physiotherapy. Medical staff are coordinating with spine specialists to determine whether surgical intervention is necessary for the L2, L3, and L4 fractures or if conservative management will suffice for the remainder of the recovery window.
Until a specialist gives final clearance, Márquez remains barred from any physical activity. The timeline rules out any return before the conclusion of the current Liga BetPlay tournament phase.
Match Context and Disciplinary Omission
The injury occurred during a challenge involving Fabry Castro. Match officials and the Video Assistant Referee (VAR) system did not penalize the play during the fixture, leaving the incident without disciplinary action against the player.
The match itself ended in a 1-1 draw between Águilas Doradas and Bucaramanga. The result leaves Águilas Doradas in 11th place in the Liga BetPlay standings with 16 points, four points behind Deportes Tolima in the eighth position.
Next Fixture Against Deportes Tolima
Águilas Doradas hosts Deportes Tolima this Sunday at 2:00 p.m. at the Estadio Atanasio Girardot for the 15th fixture of the tournament.
