Adam Fromal: Will Reichard Shines as Chris Boswell Struggles

Minnesota Vikings kicker Will Reichard has extended his consecutive field-goal streak to 30 makes, while Pittsburgh Steelers kicker Chris Boswell is struggling, according to an NFL analysis published by Adam Fromal.

The league-wide evaluation of 141 kicks through the proprietary "kick value added" (KVA) metric shows that teams are attempting field goals from deeper distances while overall accuracy climbs.

League-Wide Kicking Trends Through Week Four

During the fourth week of the 2026 NFL season, kickers across the league combined for 60 successful field goals out of 68 attempts, producing an 88.2 percent success rate, Adam Fromal reported. These figures arrived despite a considerable average distance of 41.87 yards per attempt and two blocked kicks. On extra points, kickers converted 69 of 73 tries.

Across the entire season to date, the average field-goal distance has reached 41.52 yards over 259 total attempts. Spencer Shrader and Ka’imi Fairbairn led all performers in the weekly analysis with a KVA rating of 2.28 each, followed by Matt Gay, Dominic Zvada, and Will Reichard. At the other end of the weekly ranking, Adam Fromal identified Chris Boswell, Brandon Aubrey, Daniel Carlson, Eddy Pineiro, and Harrison Mevis among the lowest performers.

Will Reichard Extends Streak for Minnesota Vikings

Will Reichard has emerged as a reliable weapon for the Minnesota Vikings, converting five field goals in his most recent outing to push his streak of consecutive makes to 30. His last miss occurred on Oct. 23, 2025, when a 53-yard attempt against the Chargers came up short and drifted right. Reichard now chases the Vikings franchise record of 39 consecutive field goals held by Gary Anderson.

Adam Fromal noted that Reichard leads all kickers in total Kick Points Over Average (KPOA) at 8.59. His scoring impact for Minnesota is substantial: out of 86 total team points, Reichard has supplied 42, accounting for 48.8 percent of the Vikings’ offensive production.

Chris Boswell Faces Struggles in Pittsburgh

In contrast, Pittsburgh Steelers kicker Chris Boswell is enduring a downturn in form. His recent misses include a 48-yard attempt against the wind, following earlier misses from 56 yards against the Falcons and 57 yards against the Patriots. His field-goal KVA has dropped to 69.1, down from a career-high 75.1 recorded on Nov. 2, 2025.

Adding to Pittsburgh’s tactical concerns, Boswell has not yet registered a kickoff touchback inside the 20-yard line this season. These struggles carry heightened scrutiny following his recent four-year, $28 million contract.

Kickers Convert Most Field Goals in High Pressure Scenarios

The league-wide data also examined performance under pressure. In high-pressure scenarios, kickers converted 37 of 42 field-goal attempts alongside a perfect 22-of-22 mark on extra points. In critical "clutch" moments, kickers went 14 for 15, while Spencer Shrader emerged as a standout performer in high-pressure "superclutch" situations.
