2026 National Senior Badminton Championship Opens in Quang Ninh Province

More than 230 athletes from 14 sports delegations nationwide gathered in Quang Ninh province to kick off the 2026 National Senior Badminton Championship. Running from October 3 to October 6, 2026, the four-day national tournament brings together players across men’s singles and doubles divisions.

Quang Ninh Hosts Four-Day Tournament

The Vietnam Sports Administration and the Quang Ninh Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism jointly oversee and coordinate the championship. Event organizers structured the championship schedule to begin immediately following the opening ceremony on October 3, sending athletes straight onto the court for opening-round matches in singles and doubles play.

During the opening ceremonies, competition organizers distributed commemorative flags to representatives from all 14 participating sports delegations. Matches continue through October 6, 2026, drawing crowds of spectators and local delegates to the venue.

Event Aligns with Provincial and National Milestones

Organizers aligned the championship with several historical and cultural milestones. Spanning the period from October 30, 1963, to October 30, 2026, the occasion serves to commemorate the 63rd anniversary of the establishment of Quang Ninh province. Furthermore, the tournament coincides with the Vietnamese Action Month for Senior Citizens as well as the International Day of Older Persons on October 1.

The competition operates under the ongoing national physical training movement modeled after President Ho Chi Minh, known as “All people practice physical exercise following the example of the great Uncle Ho”. Event officials noted that the championship highlights the resilience of older citizens while encouraging physical fitness and active lifestyles among senior participants.

Official Remarks on Humanitarian and Athletic Value

At the opening ceremony, Nguyen Thanh Tung, deputy director of the Quang Ninh Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism, described the tournament as a sporting event of significant scale and profound humanitarian dimension. He stated that the competition serves as a demonstration of wellness and active living, while also acting as an eloquent testimony to the resilience of seniors who act as models for younger generations in preserving health and contributing to national defense and construction.

Wrapping up the four-day athletic program, the official closing ceremony and medal presentations were set by organizers for the morning of October 6, 2026.
