Expanded Youth Categories Join Established Family Brackets

While previous editions focused strictly on couples and parent-child pairings, tournament organizers added a dedicated youth singles category for 2026. The expansion broadened the competitive structure to four age-specific single divisions designed to scout and nurture young talent. Meanwhile, the traditional family brackets maintained a doubles format split into 10 distinct groups determined by marriage duration, family relationships, and children’s ages.

Family Bonds and Collaborative Play Define the Matches

On the courts, pairs consisting of spouses, mothers and sons, mothers and daughters, fathers and sons, and fathers and daughters competed side by side under the event’s core ethos of happiness, health, harmony, and affection. The setup allowed family members to share athletic pressure while reinforcing cooperative bonds through active play. Zhengzhou established the tournament format in 2008 as a domestic sports innovation explicitly built around family units.

By anchoring health initiatives within family routines, the 2026 event added momentum to grassroots sports participation during the national holiday period.
