The 2026-2027 Danish Cup marks the 73rd edition of the Danish Cup football tournament, running from August 4, 2026, to May 6, 2027. A total of 104 clubs from the Danish leagues compete for the trophy, with the eventual winner securing a berth in the second qualifying round of the 2027-2028 UEFA Europa League.
FC Midtjylland enters the tournament as the defending champion. The club captured its third title in the competition—and its first since 2022—by defeating FC Copenhagen in the final.
One Hundred Four Clubs Enter the Knockout Brackets
The 104-team field encompasses all 56 clubs from the top four divisions of Danish football, alongside 56 lower-division sides that secured their places through local qualifying tournaments. The tournament unfolds across seven rounds before culminating in the final match at Parken Stadium in Copenhagen on May 6, 2027.
Competition rules dictate that the quarter-finals and semi-finals are contested over two legs on a home-and-away basis. The structure introduces teams progressively depending on their league status from the preceding season, distributing the opening rounds according to geographic criteria during the draws.
Opening Rounds and Geographic Distribution
The opening round, held from August 4 to August 6, 2026, brought together 92 clubs from outside the top division for 46 initial fixtures. The draw divided participants into three geographic groupings: Seeland/Lolland/Bornholm, Fionie/South Jutland, and Central Jutland/North Jutland.
The 46 surviving clubs advanced to the second round, contested between August 25 and August 27, 2026, alongside six teams from the top tier. Those 52 participants were split into East and West geographic pools for 26 matches. The subsequent third round took place between September 15 and September 17, 2026, welcoming the remaining six top-flight clubs to complete a 16-match slate.
Winter Break Looms Over the Round of 16
Following the early autumn eliminations, the tournament schedule moves into its late-autumn and winter phases. Matches for the round of 16 are scheduled between October 27 and November 3, 2026.
The subsequent two-legged ties move into December. First-leg matches are set to take place between December 1 and December 3, 2026, with the return fixtures scheduled for December 12 and December 13, 2026.
Spring Schedule Leading to Copenhagen
Action resumes in February 2027 as the tournament narrows down toward the latter stages. The quarter-final first legs are scheduled for February 13 and 14, 2027, followed by the return legs on March 2 and March 4, 2027.
The remaining contenders will contest the semi-finals before the domestic cup schedule reaches its conclusion at Parken Stadium in Copenhagen.
