Zamalek SC is advancing its search for a new sporting director, with club officials maintaining that Hossam El-Zenaty remains the sole candidate under consideration for the role, according to reports from Egyptian media outlets.

Hossam El-Zenaty, the leading candidate for the sporting director position at Zamalek, recently met with former sporting director John Edward to review key operational files regarding the club and its first-team football squad, according to reports from Masrawy. During the sessions, El-Zenaty reportedly inquired about the financial landscape within the club, requesting detailed breakdowns of player contracts and outstanding financial dues to gauge the current operational environment before committing to the role.
According to the same reporting, John Edward highlighted the club’s financial crisis as a primary challenge facing incoming leadership, while walking his potential successor through existing administrative files and squad evaluations. Club president Hussein Labib previously initiated contact with El-Zenaty, holding multiple meetings to persuade him to take charge of football operations at the White Castle.
Zamalek Denies Expanded Search
“We are not trying to reach an agreement with anyone else besides Hossam El-Zenaty for any task related to the sporting director role inside the club,” the Zamalek source stated, emphasizing that reports of parallel interviews are entirely baseless.
