Pickleball Push Targets Aging Roster

Union sportive (US) Juvardeil Tennis is turning to pickleball to revitalize its membership base and introduce new racket sports options to the local community.

Club president Jacques Bedout announced the strategic shift during the organization’s annual general meeting on Friday, September 18. Operating with just 15 registered members during the 2025–2026 season, the club faces an aging demographic and aims to attract younger generations back to the courts through multi-sport offerings.

Balanced Books and a Historic Double

During the financial and operational review, treasurer Fernand Numes reported that the club’s budget remains balanced for the term. Financial stability was aided by a municipal subsidy of 300 € from the local administration in Juvardeil, which offset operational costs for the modest organization.

On the competitive front, US Juvardeil experienced a successful yet muted summer campaign. Both club teams entered in the summer cup secured division finals victories, marking a historic double for the squad. However, the achievement unfolded without formal trophies and amid reduced engagement from the organizing committee.

Minimal Investment for Maximum Courts

To address declining active participation in traditional tennis, leadership voted to establish a dedicated pickleball section.

Pickleball combines elements of tennis, badminton, padel, and table tennis, requiring minimal financial investment from community clubs. Equipment needs consist solely of a starter kit containing a net, four solid paddles, and a perforated plastic ball.

High Density on Standard Surfaces

From a spatial standpoint, pickleball requires a court measuring 13.41 meters in length by 6.10 meters in width.

This compact footprint allows clubs to lay out four pickleball courts over a single standard tennis court, enabling up to 16 players to participate simultaneously.

Launch Plans and Community Access

US Juvardeil has already purchased three starter kits in preparation for the launch.

The club plans to host a dedicated discovery day and secure dedicated indoor time slots at the local sports hall to accommodate the new discipline.
