The journey of the Fuego Suramericano reached Granadero Baigorria on Thursday, bringing the torch for the XIII Juegos Suramericanos Santa Fe 2026 to local streets, the Paraná riverfront, and community sports hubs ahead of the September multi-sport event.
Torch Relay Connects Santa Fe Communities
The torch relay serves as the official countdown symbol for the upcoming Games, which run from September 12 to 26, 2026. Across two weeks of competition, the regional event will gather more than 4,000 athletes representing 15 countries across South America, featuring 43 sports and 60 distinct disciplines, as reported by El Litoral. Rather than keeping all celebrations restricted exclusively to the primary host cities of Santa Fe, Rosario, and Rafaela, the torch tour brings the community spirit directly to surrounding localities across the province.
Before arriving in Granadero Baigorria, the flame stopped in Funes on Thursday afternoon. There, local residents gathered at the Mercado Don Bosco for interactive sports zones, virtual reality simulators, mini golf, and football-tennis courts designed to engage families and youth in the regional athletic showcase.
Granadero Baigorria Route and Local Participation
In Granadero Baigorria, the torch route began at Plaza 9 de Julio, winding through municipal streets and passing near the local Natural Reserve situated along the coast of the Paraná River. The journey concluded at Parque Acceso Sur for the central ceremony.
Local athletes from various disciplines served as the official torchbearers, taking turns carrying the flame in a community relay that featured sports clubs, families, and residents. During the closing event at the park, Granadero Baigorria Mayor Adrián Maglia emphasized the significance of grassroots athletics. “Ver a nuestras familias y a nuestras deportistas participar de esta jornada demuestra la importancia que tiene el deporte para la ciudad y para las nuevas generaciones,” Maglia stated.
