SC Austria Lustenau has strengthened its attacking options on deadline day by securing the services of 19-year-old forward Alieu Conateh on a season-long loan from Swiss Super League club GC Zürich. The agreement includes a built-in purchase option.
Lustenau Secures Deadline-Day Loan for Conateh
The swift winger moves to the Austrian second-tier side after beginning his professional journey in Europe with the Grasshoppers, who signed him from his native Gambia in the summer of 2025. Conateh was quickly redirected on loan to SKU Amstetten to gain valuable competitive experience in Austrian football.
Proving Ground in the Austrian Second Tier
During his stint with the Mostviertel-based club, Conateh featured in 28 competitive matches, finding the back of the net five times while providing seven assists.
Return to Switzerland and Fast-Track to Austria
Following his spell in Amstetten, Conateh returned to GC Zürich and managed four appearances in the Swiss Super League during the current campaign before finalizing his move to Lustenau.
The player expressed enthusiasm about joining his new surroundings, noting that he missed out on playing at the venue during a previous fixture due to a suspension.
“I am extremely happy and very proud to be allowed to play for Austria from now on,” Conateh stated through the club’s official media channels. “I have already heard a lot about the club and followed it last season. I was unfortunately suspended for the last away game here in Lustenau and couldn’t be on the pitch, but I still noticed the atmosphere and the fans. I am all the more looking forward to running out in green and white in front of them myself.”

Austria Lustenau’s sporting director, Dieter Alge, detailed the tactical qualities that convinced the club’s hierarchy to pursue the Gambian attacker for their promotion push.
“Alieu was already a topic for us last season,” Alge said. “He brings many interesting skills that are of great importance in modern football. Alieu is fast, lively, strong at dribbling, and dangerous in front of goal. With his dynamism and individual quality, he will give our attacking game additional impetus and open up further possibilities and variability in attack.”
