The pair previously worked together at Stade de Reims between 2022 and 2024, forging a productive collaboration that included Diawara stepping up twice as interim head coach for the Ligue 1 side. Official statements from the club confirmed that the 48-year-old coach has officially put pen to paper, bolstering an AJA technical staff that already features Nicolas Still.

Diawara’s arrival directly addresses the coaching vacancy created by Jean-Alain Boumsong’s exit. Boumsong had joined the Auxerre setup in May 2025 but parted ways with the club ahead of the new campaign. In its public announcements regarding the transition, the club formally thanked Boumsong for his contribution and investment during his tenure in the Burgundy region.
