Saltillo has officially launched one of the most significant athletic competitions in its recent history, welcoming the 2026 Hyundai Archery World Cup Final to the capital of Coahuila, according to regional sports reporting. The opening ceremony took place on Thursday in the city’s historic downtown, setting the stage for a weekend of elite international competition.
Historic Opening Ceremony in the Heart of Saltillo
The formal inauguration unfolded in the Plaza de Armas, positioned directly in front of the historic Catedral de Santiago and the Palacio de Gobierno. According to local coverage from Vanguardia, the picturesque colonial square serves as the primary backdrop for the weekend tournament, which gathers 32 of the top archers from across the global circuit.
Regional officials and international sports leaders gathered for the opening proceedings. Host nation Mexico fields a robust seven-athlete delegation for the World Cup Final, with four competitors hailing specifically from the state of Coahuila. Vanguardia reports that the national roster features Matías Grande, Ana Paula Vázquez, Dafne Quintero, Sebastián García Flores, Alejandra Valencia, Andrea Becerra, and Rodrigo González de Alba.
During the opening ceremonies, Mayor Javier Díaz highlighted the strong local footprint on the national team. Meanwhile, CONADE official Carolina Acosta noted that Coahuila has established itself as a referent within the formation of athletes of this discipline, pointing to figures indicating that roughly 60 percent of the broader Mexican National Team originates from the state.
