Trailrunner Ida Amelie Robsahm has died at age 30 following a fall on the Romsdalseggen ridge, one of Norway’s most demanding climbing routes, according to reports confirmed by local authorities and sports organizations.
Fatal Fall on Romsdalseggen Ridge
The incident occurred on a Saturday morning when the Norwegian police received an emergency notification reporting that a member of a hiking group had fallen near the summit of the ridge. According to operational manager Eivind Klokkersund, the fall measured several dozen meters down the slope. A rescue helicopter was dispatched to the scene, but emergency responders could not save her life.
A Rising Force in Global Mountain Running
Robsahm was widely recognized as a rising force in global mountain running and trail racing.
During the 2025 season, she secured a fourth-place finish at the world championships, a performance that paved the way for her to compete semi-professionally for the Asics Trail Team. Her standout result arrived on June 28, when she claimed second place at the Marathon du Mont-Blanc, finishing behind Swedish competitor Tove Alexandersson. In December 2025, she expanded her range to road racing with a strong debut at the Valencia Marathon, clocking a time of 2 hours, 29 minutes, and 57 seconds.
Coach and Family Pay Tribute
Her coach, Sindre Buraas, received news of the tragedy while working as a commentator at the World Athletics Road Running Championships. Speaking to the Norwegian press, Buraas described the loss as an immense shock. He noted that Robsahm was in an environment where she felt completely at home, praising her dedication, talent, and warm personal character.
In a statement released to the Norwegian media, Robsahm’s family expressed gratitude to the wider running community. They emphasized how much Ida cherished the sport and thanked everyone for the care and support shown during the crisis.
