An assault investigation is underway in Germany following a violent physical altercation during the final matchday of the Judo-Bundesliga. According to reports from regional media and police confirmations, German Olympic judoka Timo Cavelius suffered severe facial injuries, including a broken jaw and the loss of two teeth, after being repeatedly punched by Georgian competitor Akaki Japaridze following a match in Leipzig.

The Leipzig police confirmed to regional news agencies that a formal criminal complaint for suspected bodily harm has been filed against the 24-year-old Georgian athlete, who competed as a guest fighter for the JC Leipzig team. Authorities stated that the suspect’s identity is known and that investigators are reviewing video footage of the incident, which occurred at the Sporthalle Brüderstraße on Saturday evening.
Law enforcement officials did not detain Japaridze at the venue on Saturday night because he had already returned to his hotel. Media reports indicate that the athlete has since departed Germany and returned to Georgia. Police noted that there is currently no immediate danger, and standard investigative procedures are moving forward.

The incident unfolded during a Bundesliga fixture between the host club JC Leipzig and the reigning series champion TSV Abensberg, a match in which the Saxony squad had already secured an 8-6 victory.
