PDC Expands Calendar with New Major Tournament in Salzburg and Expands European Championship
The Professional Darts Corporation (PDC) has unveiled its schedule for 2027, introducing a new major tournament in Salzburg alongside an expansion of the European Championship in Dortmund. Under the newly announced 2027 calendar, the global darts circuit will incorporate the European Open, staged from June 18 to June 20 in Salzburg, featuring all 128 PDC tour card holders competing for a £750,000 prize fund.
PDC Chief Executive Matt Porter highlighted the strategic growth of the sport’s tier-one events. “The introduction of the European Open in Salzburg is another significant addition to the events calendar and strengthens the already fantastic offering right across the year even further,” Porter said.
Austria Secures New Major Ahead of Germany
The addition of a new major tournament had been a frequent topic of discussion over recent months within the sport. While Germany had initially been widely discussed as a potential host nation for the new event, the PDC ultimately awarded the hosting rights to Salzburg, Austria. Despite missing out on the new major, Germany remains a cornerstone of the European darting calendar, retaining two high-profile events: the World Cup of Darts in Frankfurt am Main, scheduled for June 10 to 13, 2027, and the European Championship in Dortmund, set for October 26 to 31, 2027.

Dortmund European Championship Expands to Six Days
Darts fans in Germany can look forward to an extended European Championship at the Westfalenhallen in Dortmund. The tournament will grow from four to six days in duration, while the player field expands from 32 to 48 participants.
Beyond the major events, the PDC European Tour will visit ten different countries across 15 tournaments in 2027. Stops are confirmed in German cities including Kiel, Munich, Göttingen, Sindelfingen, and Leverkusen. The European Tour will also make its historic debut appearance in France, staging a competition in Liévin, southeast of Lille, from March 19 to 21.
French Professional Celebrates Milestone
The expansion into France marks a major milestone for the sport’s international footprint. French professional player Thibault Tricole reflected on the growth of darts in his home country on social media, writing: “If I think back to the path that the sport of darts has taken in our country in recent years, it’s just unbelievable. Barely ten years ago, all of that seemed so far away, even unthinkable. Sometimes I wondered if the association wouldn’t disappear at some point, so sharply did the number of members drop. And today we are on the verge of hosting an official PDC competition in France.”
Meanwhile, the Premier League Darts schedule will visit the Uber Arena in Berlin for its second match night on February 4, bringing the eight-player invitational tour to the German capital earlier in the year than usual.
