The 13th edition of the Girona Women’s Race drew more than 4,000 participants to the city’s streets this morning, turning a 5-kilometer course into a vibrant sea of pink shirts. Organizers confirmed the milestone attendance as runners, walkers, and families gathered in La Devesa to support local health and community organizations.
A Festive Morning Across Girona
The event kicked off at 10:00 a.m. local time from La Devesa, accompanied by music, warm-up routines, and enthusiastic crowds lining the route. Participants navigated a scenic urban course that wound around the park before crossing the Pedret bridge, traveling down Carrer de les Ballesteries, and passing through Ciutadans. The route then crossed the Stone Bridge onto Carrer Nou and headed up Gran Via de Jaume I back toward the starting grounds near La Copa.

Supporters cheered on participants of all ages, creating a lively community atmosphere. “I’ve come to the race every year since it started,” said 83-year-old participant Joana Garcia, who encouraged her Oncolliga friends to join. First-time participant Pilar Bujadon, traveling from l’Armentera alongside Mercè Magro, shared similar enthusiasm for the community gathering.
Elite Finish and Community Spirit
At the front of the pack, Marina Guerrero secured first place near La Copa, having won in recent editions. While pleased with the result, Guerrero emphasized that the event’s primary appeal stretches far beyond competitive racing. “This race helps encourage people to put on a bib, lose the fear of completing the full route, and train to get in shape. That’s what makes it special,” Guerrero said after crossing the finish line.
Beyond the competitive division, participants embraced the day’s festive elements, including a post-race costume contest. Anna Ullet and her daughter, Nora, participated in breakfast-themed costumes representing essential race-day energy sources, joined by other families and groups enjoying the day.
Supporting Local Causes
The event combined athletic participation with charitable fundraising. Organizers confirmed that €1 from every registration goes directly to the Girona Biomedical Research Institute (Idibgi), Oncolliga’s “Guapes i Valentes” program, and the Els Joncs Foundation.
The Cursa de la Dona is organized by the Girona City Council and Esports Parra, with sponsorship from Clínica Girona and CaixaBank, and Diari de Girona serving as the official media partner. Organizers look forward to expanding the event’s reach in future editions.
