Weather Challenges and Early Breakaways Shape the Course
The 120-parting field faced punishing conditions from the start, as heavy rain showers and strong wind gusts swept across the bocage Fougerais. Riders tackled an initial circuit of 28.8 kilometers through Javené, Vendel (Rives-du-Couesnon), La Chapelle Saint-Aubert, and Romagné. The route funneled past the historic château de Fougères before confronting the steep slopes of the côte de la Pinterie, designated as the main climb for the Trophée des grimpeurs.
Conditions improved as skies cleared during the second half of the event. With roughly 60 kilometers remaining, Mahoudo launched a decisive acceleration to seize control of the race. Racing through the Morbihan rider’s established rhythm, he carved out a lead of approximately 40 seconds over the chasing pack, maintaining pressure despite missing out on a narrow victory days prior at the Trois jours de Cherbourg, where he finished second in Stage 2 by a thousandth of a second.
The Final Pursuit and the Decisive Climb of La Pinterie
Rather than fading after his long solo effort, Mahoudo remained active within a select lead group that included Alexis Pierre (Moyon Percy Manche Normandie), Toby Chatonnet (Team Bricquebec Cotentin), Malo Stevant, Clément Sanchez, and Mexico’s José Prietto.
On the final ascent up the côte de la Pinterie, Mahoudo unleashed one last attack. He crossed the finish line ahead of runner-up Alexis Pierre and third-place finisher Toby Chatonnet, capturing his third victory of the 2026 season.
Validating a Strong 2026 Amateur Campaign
Tuesday’s triumph adds to a consistent campaign for Mahoudo following his transition back to the amateur ranks. His resume this season already featured victories at an event on the Circuit des plages vendéennes and a round of the Ronde Finistérienne. The win also provided immediate relief after a frustrating runner-up finish behind a rival at the Grand Prix de Plouay in late August.
Having previously raced professionally with Cofidis for two seasons, completed a stint with CIC U Nantes Atlantique, and taken a late-season stage with B&B Hotels-KTM in 2022, Mahoudo continues to anchor his season with dominant performances on the French regional calendar.
