Among the returning activities is the archery minigame, which preserves hidden collectible targets scattered across the environment.
The upcoming sports title revives the atmosphere of the 2009 Wii classic, incorporating both familiar mechanics and modern hardware updates. Preview sessions held at Nintendo offices and the San Diego Comic-Con reveal that the new game blends the classic resort layout with the updated character designs and controls introduced in the 2022 Nintendo Switch Sports release.
Wuhu Island Returns With Twelve Sports
Nintendo Switch Sports Resort features a lineup of twelve distinct sports set across Wuhu Island. Confirmed disciplines include archery, bowling, jet skiing, swordplay, and airplane flights, with jump rope serving as a physical warm-up activity. Players can utilize classic Mii characters alongside newer character models.
According to preview coverage from Nintenderos, the demo showcased four specific events: Jet Skiing, Archery, Bowling, and Thumb Wars. The titles make full use of the updated Joy-Con 2 technology to deliver precise motion controls.
Archery Secrets and Hidden Targets
In the archery minigame, players can shoot at more than just the standard bullseye. Hidden collectible items are placed throughout the Wuhu Island environment, echoing a secret feature from the original Wii Sports Resort.
In the 2009 release, these hidden targets included items such as oranges, watermelons, melons, strawberry cakes, flans, and timers. Successfully hitting any of these objects awarded 10 points—matching the score for hitting the center of the target—and contributed to unlocking stamps upon completing specific difficulties. For the Nintendo Switch 2 version, hitting these hidden objects grants the equivalent of a direct bullseye hit, providing the same point value.
Jet Skiing and Bowling Details
The jet skiing event requires players to hold both Joy-Con 2 controllers like handlebars, moving their arms to steer the watercraft. Gamers fly through propulsion rings and time a turbo boost by flicking the right controller when the meter fills, creating a competitive racing dynamic comparable to Mario Kart.
Meanwhile, the bowling mode remains faithful to earlier iterations, offering support for either one or two Joy-Con 2 controllers depending on player preference. The mode also brings back the 100-pin bowling challenge from the original Wii Sports Resort.
