Tournament organizers finalized the professional draw on September 24, setting up Thuy Linh’s entry into the second round of the women’s singles competition. Because she received a bye in the opening round, the Vietnamese player opens her ASIAD 20 schedule directly against Thalita Ramadhani Wiryawan of Indonesia.
Thalita, born on September 21, 2007, enters the matchup at 19 years of age with a world ranking of 60th. Records from the Badminton Association of Indonesia (PBSI) show that the right-handed player entered the national training center in 2025. Her recent international experience includes a first-round victory over Peru’s Ines Lucia Castillo at the 2026 World Championships, before falling to world No. 1 An Se Young. She also featured in Indonesia’s team event at ASIAD 20, dropping a three-set quarterfinal match against Chinese Taipei’s Chiu Pin-Chian.

Thuy Linh’s section of the draw places her on a collision course with elite continental competition. The winner of her bracket will potentially face fourth-seeded Chen Yu Fei of China, who opens her tournament against Liang Ka Wing of Hong Kong, China.
As Vietnam’s lone representative in the women’s singles event, Thuy Linh looks to regain her top form after facing a challenging stretch earlier in the season. She reached a peak of 25th in the world rankings during 2026 and secured her seventh appearance at the World Championships, where she squared off against Japan’s second-ranked Akane Yamaguchi in the opening round. However, her final preparations were complicated by a first-round exit at the Vietnam Open in early September against China’s Xu Wen Jing.
Broader Vietnamese Badminton Campaign
Vietnam’s delegation features multiple entries across the badminton schedule running from September 25 to September 29. In the men’s singles, Nguyen Hai Dang opened his campaign against Tadjikistan’s Adnan Ebrahim. Meanwhile, the men’s doubles pair of Nguyen Dinh Hoang and Tran Dinh Manh faced Bangladesh’s Dulguun Khishigchuluun and Usukh-Ireedui Uulensolongo in their opening rounds.
