Vietnamese badminton player Nguyễn Thùy Linh opened her campaign at the 20th Asian Games with a straight-set victory over Indonesia’s Wiryawan Thalita Ramadhani, securing a second-round advance in just 38 minutes on Sept. 26. Thùy Linh entered the match as the clear favorite due to her higher world ranking and deeper tournament experience.
Dominant Opening Match at the Asian Games
Ranked No. 32 in the world, Thùy Linh faced the 60th-ranked Ramadhani during the morning session of the continental multi-sport event. Despite acknowledging that she has not been in peak physical form recently, the Vietnamese athlete established control from the opening exchanges. She captured the first set 21–15 before tightening her tactical execution in the second.
The second set proved more straightforward as Thùy Linh maintained command of the court through a combination of precise baseline smashes and delicate net shots. She closed out the second set 21–10 to seal a 2–0 overall victory.
Next Challenge Against World No. 4 Chen Yu Fei
Following her opening win, Thùy Linh advances to a formidable test in the third round against China’s Chen Yu Fei, who is currently ranked No. 4 in the world. Historical head-to-head records favor the Chinese star, who has won 100% of their previous three encounters. The third-round match is scheduled for the afternoon of Sept. 26.
The broader Vietnamese badminton team maintained a busy schedule on the same day. In the men’s singles second round, Nguyễn Hải Đăng faced Odilzhon Abdurakhimov of Tajikistan.
