While the exact duration has not been fully detailed in all announcements, the extension is widely reported to take Arteta into his tenth year of service at the club, keeping him under contract until at least the 2029–30 season. Arteta originally took charge at Arsenal in 2019 following a playing career that spanned 110 matches for the Gunners from 2011 to 2016.

Josh Kroenke and Club Leadership Backing
Arsenal co-chairman Josh Kroenke emphasized the importance of securing Arteta’s long-term future earlier this year. Speaking at the start of June, Kroenke made it clear that the club would do everything they could to ensure Arteta remained in north London.

Squad Developments and Academy Prospects
Alongside the manager’s extension, Arsenal made a contract announcement about talented young defender Marli Salmon, as reported by the Daily Express. Salmon, 17, has impressed the first-team manager in pre-season and prompted Arteta to include him in several senior squads, despite the defensive options available. Salmon has spent seven years at the club and played in a friendly with Como before the Premier League season got underway, earning praise from Arteta. Salmon impressed at the back, despite coming through the academy as a striker, having spent seven years at the club before transitioning to a formidable defender.
Salmon, even before signing a professional contract, was named in multiple squads last season. He made his debut in the Champions League at Club Brugge, where he replaced Ben White in the 83rd minute.

The contract agreement arrives as Arsenal navigate a busy domestic and European calendar. Arteta led Arsenal to the Premier League title last season, marking the club’s first championship since 2004. On top of that, Arsenal were the 2025-26 UEFA Champions League runner-up. Last season marked only the second time Arsenal ever reached the Champions League final, and although they fell to Paris Saint-Germain on penalty kicks, making it that far was another feather in Arteta’s cap.
Arteta already has the Gunners off to a strong start in league play with winning all but one of their matches in all competitions, placing them second in the table, three points behind undefeated Manchester City.
