One week prior to the London tennis event, Mike Tindall used the first episode of the new season of his podcast, The Good, The Bad & The Rugby, to announce that his father had passed away. Speaking candidly to co-hosts James Haskell and Alex Payne, he stated that his father had died the previous week.

Phil Tindall lived with Parkinson’s disease for more than two decades, following a diagnosis initially received in 2003. Earlier in the year, during a May episode of the same podcast, his son had spoken openly about the worsening condition, describing the illness as brutal.

He began his playing career at age 17, debuting for Otley’s first team during the 1963/64 season before captaining the club in the 1972/73 campaign. His playing days were cut short at age 27 due to the lasting effects of a broken leg sustained just a week before his 1969 wedding to Linda Tindall, forcing him to walk down the aisle in a plaster cast.
