Merate kicked off its community-wide sports festival, running from Saturday through September 26. The ambitious initiative brings together disciplines ranging from sport fishing and archery to beach volley, pump track sessions, walking groups, orienteering, and bicycle gymkhanas.

Designed for residents of all ages and athletic abilities rather than elite competitors alone, the month-long push aims to promote grassroots physical activity across the community.
Expanding Events Into the Surrounding Hamlets
Municipal officials designed this year’s schedule to deliberately expand events into the surrounding hamlets, ensuring broader accessibility. Activities and open days are slated for Brugarolo, Cassini, Pagnano, and Sartirana.
“We want to promote a sport for everyone, accessible and inclusive,” explained Sports Councilor Gianpiero Airoldi and delegated councilor Lorenzo Ravasi in joint remarks reported by local media.
Balancing Active Participation and Showcases
The calendar balances active participation with community showcases. Alongside daily open-door sessions and instructional clinics, organizers scheduled a dedicated photographic exhibition highlighting local athletic traditions.
Special Guests and the Closing Gala
Among the prominent guest speakers featured during the month is Mattia Muratore, a world champion in powerchair hockey with Italy’s national team, who will share his experiences with attendees as part of the inclusive programming.
The festival culminates in a formal closing Gala dedicated to honoring athletes from the area who have achieved significant milestones in their respective fields.
