The escalation unfolded as Ukrainian forces launched extensive drone operations reaching deep into Russian airspace. According to regional reporting, Moscow and its surrounding region faced a heavy barrage of unmanned aerial vehicles, forcing air defense units and electronic warfare systems into continuous operation. Moscow regional governor Andrei Voroviov reported that air defense forces and electronic warfare units intercepted or neutralized 187 aerial devices over the capital region alone. The incursions disrupted operations temporarily across Moscow’s four major international airports as defense batteries engaged incoming threats overhead.

In the regional town of Jimski, a drone impact on a residential structure resulted in a fatality, while another individual was trapped under debris, according to Governor Voroviov. In Mitischi, an impact on a building under construction caused two additional deaths. Meanwhile, near the capital’s oil refinery, Mayor Sergei Sobianin reported that preliminary data indicated 12 people sustained injuries, primarily contract workers stationed near the facility’s entrance, though the plant’s technological processes remained uninterrupted.

Industrial Targets and Southern Escalation

Beyond the capital’s perimeter, the operations targeted major logistical and industrial installations. According to regional coverage, a massive fire engulfed a Wildberries warehouse, a major Russian e-commerce platform. Ukrainian military statements indicated that several primary logistics hubs belonging to the company have been targeted due to alleged use in managing supplies intended for Russian forces. Governor Voroviov stated that no injuries were reported at the warehouse site.

Further south in the Rostov region, regional authorities reported five fatalities resulting from strikes directed against industrial defense manufacturing. According to Ukrainian military briefings, one of the primary targets in Rostov was a facility within the defense industrial complex that produces solid propellants for various weapons systems. Concurrently, maritime risk management reports noted that a Greek-flagged oil tanker sustained two impacts while moored near the Russian port of Novorossisk, though official confirmation regarding the weaponry and extent of damage remains pending.

Official Statements and Cross-Border Retaliation

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy defended the long-range operations in a video address, stating that the actions are fully justified responses to the prolonged conflict and ongoing strikes against Ukrainian cities. “Our responses to the prolongation of the conflict by Russia and to its attacks against our cities and towns are completely justified,” Zelenskyy stated via social media channels. “This time, Ukrainian long-range actions have reached the Moscow region. We are telling the Russians clearly: your state must put an end to its war.”

Russian defense ministries and regional governors reported that air defenses intercepted hundreds of incoming units across multiple regions. Simultaneously, Russian forces maintained heavy aerial offensives against Ukrainian territory. According to Ukrainian Air Force reports, Russian forces launched close to 300 aerial devices overnight, with 279 intercepted by air defense systems across southern, northern, and eastern regions. President Zelenskyy noted that over the preceding week, Russian forces had deployed numerous drones, guided aerial bombs, and 62 missiles against Ukrainian cities, affecting locations including Kyiv, Kremenchuk, Kryvyi Rih, and Sumy, where industrial and civilian infrastructure sustained heavy damage and casualties.
