Luis de la Fuente will remain at the helm of the Spanish national football team through 2032, after the Real Federación Española de Fútbol board of directors unanimously approved a major contract extension on Monday. The agreement secures the manager’s position through three upcoming major international tournaments, cementing long-term stability for the reigning world champions following a run of success.

The RFEF board met at the Ciudad del Fútbol in Las Rozas to ratify the long-term deal, moving past the manager’s previous contract that ran through 2028. Under the newly extended terms, De la Fuente will lead the senior men’s national team across a tenure that spans the 2028 UEFA European Championship in the United Kingdom and Ireland, the 2030 FIFA World Cup hosted jointly by Spain, Portugal, and Morocco, and the 2032 European Championship in Italy and Turkey.

RFEF President Rafael Louzán praised the appointment during a press conference alongside the coach, describing the extension as a necessary step to honor a sporting trajectory. Louzán pointed to the team’s unified backing across the nation and emphasized the federation’s desire for continuous stability as the program looks toward future milestones.
A Trophy-Laden Legacy
De la Fuente took charge of the senior national team in 2022. His tenure has yielded three major titles: the 2023 UEFA Nations League, UEFA Euro 2024, and the 2026 FIFA World Cup, where Spain defeated Argentina in the final to claim their second world star.
Reflecting on the new deal, De la Fuente expressed gratitude while urging his players to maintain their competitive edge. “Success lies in being in a position to win and putting everything you have into it,” De la Fuente said in Las Rozas. “We are not satisfied with what we have achieved; the best is yet to come, believe me, there are many good things left to enjoy.”
