A Two-Year Horizon with an Eye on 2030

Scaloni’s current deal with the Albiceleste runs through the end of December.

Following the 2026 World Cup final, the coach had publicly suggested he would evaluate his position once his agreement concluded. Over the subsequent two months, however, those reservations gave way to renewed discussions regarding a new cycle.

While the terms remain unconfirmed pending a formal announcement, reporting indicates the proposed extension would span two years through the 2028 Copa América. It includes an option for an additional two years carrying through the 2030 FIFA World Cup.

Such a duration would mark Scaloni’s third World Cup cycle at the helm. He originally took charge in 2018 following the tournament in Russia.

Before any formal ink meets paper, Scaloni prepares to lead the squad through three upcoming international friendlies.

The Albiceleste face Bolivia on August 30, Burkina Faso on September 3, and Benin on September 6—a fixture slated as Lionel Messi’s international farewell match.
