Le Castellet has officially opened its new municipal dojo, providing a dedicated space for martial arts and community wellness featuring 140 square meters of tatami mats within a 290-square-meter facility. The inauguration ceremony took place on a Saturday morning, marking the realization of a project that municipal leaders and local residents spent several years preparing.
A Long-Awaited Facility for Martial Arts and Community Wellness
The newly opened municipal complex in Le Castellet spans 290 square meters in total floor space, designed specifically to support athletic training and community health. Out of that total footprint, 140 square meters are covered with specialized tatami mats suited for judo and related disciplines. The facility is structured to serve multiple user groups throughout the day, accommodating local schools, sports associations, and residents of all generations.
Decades of Local Dedication Behind the Project
The creation of the new dojo stems in large part from the efforts of Hervé Tarpéa, who has taught judo in Le Castellet since the 1990s and currently serves as the municipality’s deputy for sports. After spending more than 30 years teaching the discipline locally, Tarpéa helped steer the multi-year planning effort to bring the new facility to fruition. Municipal officials noted that the venue is intended not only for physical training but also as a center for passing down values such as respect, effort, and sharing among younger generations.
Daily Schedule Tailored for Schools and Associations
With construction and outfitting complete, the municipal dojo is ready for daily use. Local schools will incorporate the space into their physical education programming, while community sports associations will utilize the tatami areas during scheduled club hours. The municipality confirmed that the facility’s doors are officially open for practice following the conclusion of the opening ceremony.
