On September 25, 2026, the Kumamoto Volters basketball club and the Kumamoto Innovation Base officially established a formal partnership aimed at regional revitalization, human resource development, and new business creation through sport.
Kumamoto Basketball Co., Ltd. announced the agreement alongside the Kumamoto Innovation Base, aligning professional sports content with local entrepreneurial networks. Under the leadership of Kumamoto Basketball President Satoshi Tonoue and KUIB Operations Committee Chairman Hiroto Okamura, the two organizations plan to combine the Volters’ regional reach and brand visibility with KUIB’s ties to local business leaders and corporate executives.
This regional pact follows a broader national framework established on April 14, 2026, when xIB JAPAN and the Japan Professional Basketball League (B.LEAGUE) entered into a nationwide partnership designed to use Innovation Base chapters and B.LEAGUE clubs for local economic development and business incubation.
Connecting Professional Basketball with Local Enterprise
The collaboration bridges the gap between professional sports entertainment and regional business development in Kumamoto. The Kumamoto Volters provide an established platform with direct community touchpoints, media visibility, and sports content. Meanwhile, the Kumamoto Innovation Base contributes its network of entrepreneurs, corporate executives, and mentorship expertise.
According to the participating organizations, the joint initiative will focus on fostering local talent, generating new commercial ventures, and establishing structured cooperative frameworks between the basketball club and regional enterprises.
