The transaction, which had reached an agreement framework on June 30, spent weeks in limbo while the league investigated the Clippers and Leonard over contract discrepancies. The Investigation and Sanctions That Halted the Deal
The trade’s delayed official confirmation stemmed directly from an investigation into the Los Angeles Clippers’ contract practices with Leonard. According to league findings revealed earlier in September, the franchise helped secure additional revenue streams for Leonard through agreements with at least four team partners, income that bypassed standard salary cap calculations. Following the probe, the Clippers received a $30 million fine and the forfeiture of their first-round draft picks spanning from 2029 to 2033, while Leonard was fined $700,000, as reported by Sports.fr.

Leonard enters the upcoming season with one year remaining on his contract, carrying a $50 million salary for the year.
