Advancing to Semifinals in San Salvador

During the San Salvador tournament, Espinoza advanced through the bracket all the way to the semifinals. While Lima halted Espinoza’s run for the gold, the deep tournament sweep provided a crucial competitive benchmark for the Baja California native as she gathers vital ranking points.

The qualification process for the Mexican judo team requires athletes to accumulate points across an 8-tournament circuit overseen by the Mexican Judo Federation. National selectors will evaluate each competitor’s four best finishes from these designated events to finalize the roster.

The Road to Lima 2027: Upcoming Tournaments

Following her opening matches in Central America, Espinoza’s schedule moves immediately to the Caribbean. Her next major test is scheduled at the Pan American Open in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic. After the Dominican tournament, the qualification calendar features a stop in Miami this coming October, followed by a tournament in Montreal slated for late this year.

The qualification sequence extends into the spring of 2027, with two additional Pan American Cups and a continental championship on the horizon. These spring events will serve as the final determinants for athletes seeking entry into the Mexican delegation for the multi-sport games in Peru.

A Decade-Long Journey on the Tatami

Espinoza’s presence on the international stage builds upon a 14-year martial arts career. She first stepped onto a judo mat at the age of 11, drawn by a natural aptitude that quickly turned a childhood hobby into a disciplined daily routine.

Her early dominance in youth divisions brought her multiple medals at Mexico’s National Olympiad, catching the eye of national federation coaches. Those domestic results earned her a permanent invitation to train at the Mexican Judo Team’s central camp in Mexico City, alongside training stints at the High Performance Center (CAR) in Tijuana following her return to Baja California.

Balancing elite athletic training with her studies, Espinoza also claimed the national collegiate title at the 2023 Universiada, establishing a dual track of athletic and academic success that underpins her current campaign on the international circuit.
