Washington Commanders quarterback Jayden Daniels has avoided a season-ending diagnosis after dislocating his left elbow during a game against the Dallas Cowboys.
Football analyst Adam Schefter reported for ESPN that the 25-year-old signal-caller will not be placed on the long-term injured reserve list, providing a measure of relief for the franchise as it prepares for the remainder of the 2026 NFL season.
Specialist Consultation and Week-to-Week Evaluation
Following comprehensive medical evaluations, imaging reviews, and consultations with multiple specialists, team officials and medical personnel established a week-to-week evaluation schedule for Daniels’ recovery.
The team and the player are targeting a return to action as quickly as medically cleared. Daniels sustained the injury during the matchup in Dallas.
Marcus Mariota Steps In for Sunday Clash
While Daniels works toward his recovery, the Commanders will turn to quarterback Marcus Mariota to lead the offense from behind center.
Washington returns to action on Sunday at the Northwest Stadium, where they are scheduled to host the Seattle Seahawks. Kickoff is set for local venue time.
From Rookie Stardom to Injury Adversity
Selected second overall in the 2024 NFL Draft out of LSU, Daniels enjoyed a stellar rookie campaign that earned him the league’s Offensive Rookie of the Year award while leading Washington to the NFC Championship appearance.
His progression faced significant hurdles during the 2025 season, however, when a series of injuries limited him to just seven appearances. The current 2026 campaign marks his third season in the professional circuit.
