Italian archer Giulio Locchi captured three medals, including a gold, at the World Archery Field Championships in Yankton, South Dakota. Competing on the international stage, the 2006-born athlete anchored Italy’s success in the junior and team categories, helping his national delegation finish at the top of the overall medal table with 16 total podium finishes.
Mixed Team Gold in South Dakota
Locchi secured his first gold medal of the Yankton tournament in the junior mixed team event. Partnering with Linda Grezzani, the Italian duo faced the host United States squad in a tense final match. Grezzani and Locchi outscored their American opponents 69-62 to claim the victory. This performance marked Italy’s first gold medal of the world championships.
Double Bronze in Individual and Team Play
Beyond his mixed team success, Locchi added two bronze medals to his resume during the South Dakota competition. In the junior barebow individual bracket, he secured third place by defeating American archer Jacob Olmstead in the playoff match. Locchi later returned to the field for the team event alongside teammates Aloisi and Azzoni.
The Italian men’s team initially stumbled in their progression, dropping a 64-49 decision against Great Britain. However, the squad rebounded in the bronze medal match. Facing the United States once more, Locchi, Aloisi, and Azzoni edged out a narrow 51-50 victory to secure the final step on the podium.
